Welcome back Student Council!
First of all, congratulations to all of the officers and representatives of the new Council. You all have worked incredibly hard to get here - great job! Now, the Student Council had their first meeting last Wednesday, October 7. We will be meeting again each Wednesday to discuss the Student Council affairs, so if any students need to speak with a representative, please do so before Wednesday. Also, the officers are planning to continue the weekly meeting with Dr. Jackson, so if any very important things come from the students that you wish for us to discuss, please let us know and we will bring these up. The Secretary Team will be reinstating the Student Council bulletin board shortly, bringing the school weekly updates on what the Council is discussing. If you have any questions or suggestions, please meet with your Class Rep. Thank you!

Teachers Win!
The title of this blog pretty much says it all, but for those who were wondering, the teachers took an astounding victory by ONLY ONE VOTE! Congrats to the teachers, and good job to the students as well.

DANCEOFF Alternative! VOTE!
Hello sfday folk!
Many of us by now have had our thoughts about the danceoff between teachers and students that has spanned over the last couple of weeks, and as there is not yet a clear winner, the student council has decided to put matters into YOUR hands. For the next few days, you will have the power to post votes for who you think should win the coveted title of danceoff champions--the wonderful Ms. Piersol and Mr. Turner repping for the teachers, or the splendid dynamic duo of Sarah and Kemp Atkinson, fighting for the students. And while us students may not be able to vote for the next president, YOU CAN VOTE for the winner of the danceoff. For once, YOU CAN CONTROL THE OUTCOME!
The official winner shall be determined by this vote, so be sure to ROCK it! A time when the voting will be closed shall be determined, but for the mean time, VOTE! The ACTUAL winners are planned to be revealed in the near future.
Happy voting!

Bake Sale
There is going to be a Upper School bake sale on Thursday, April 3 during morning recess. The bake sale will be held in the cafeteria. Anyone who wishes to bake treats can sign up on the sign-up sheet posted on the Student Council Bulletin Board outside the cafeteria and next to the seminar room and math lab. If you sign up, you are expected to follow through and bring in treats on April 3. You may bring the treats to Mr. Young's room before the bake sale on the morning of April 3.

Green and Current Events Committees
These committees are starting up soon. We are excited to start going into action.
80's Spirit Day
There will be an 80's spirit day to celebrate the theme of the upcoming culturefest. The entire school will participate (upper and lower schools and teachers). Everyone should dress in the 80's style. There will also be a marketplace for the culturefest that day that will have a bake sale, so we encourage people to bring in a few dollars to buy some sweets!
Dance!
The dance is this Saturday from 7-10 pm. We encourage people to come and celebrate their school spirit. We would also love everyone to wear venetian masks.

Upper School Dance
The Upper School dance is officially set for Saturday, March 1 from 7 to 10 pm. Fifth through eighth graders from SFDS are welcome; no guests please! There will be light snacks and the fifth and sixth graders will have the choice of watching a movie from 8:30 to 10:00, or they can choose to stay at the dance. Regardless, students must stay at the dance or movie once they have made a decision. No wandering!
The theme for the dance is Venetian Masquerade (masks). Masks are encouraged, but not required.
Hope to see everyone there!

Back in Action
School is back and action, and we hope that everyone is well rested and feeling their best. Student council is planning some great activities this semester, and we want everyone to have a voice in this democracy. Please feel free to share your ideas with student council and give us feedback. FYI, next week, student council will be presenting to the upper school a current events team and a green committee. If you are interested, please sign up. The current events team will inform the upper school about issues in our world and their first project this year is to host a mock election for president of the U.S. The green committee will find ways to make our school as eco-friendly as possible. Well, that is all for now folks, but enjoy the long weekend up ahead.

THE NEW YEAR!
It is now the New Year, and Student Council has been preparing for plans this new semester. Our blog and our student council is now in full charge and ready to accomplish many goals we have for this year. Our last couple of meetings for the first semester, we talked about changes we wanted to make and brainstormed some new ideas for the new year. We have a new committee started by Arden Arnold, Jamie Murseanu, and Sam Pritzker (all in grade 8) who are in charge of the cafeteria. They plan to make many changes in the menu and ingredients used. If you have any special cafeteria requests or ideas, please feel free to approach any of the committee members. I hope you have been enjoying the break, and I look forward to seeing all of you students back on Monday. Prepare yourselves for some big changes this upcoming semester!
